These no doubting that the sport that I love and have grown up around is a cruel sport at times, you only have to browse through my catalogue of work to see that quite often I am painting the image’s of men who are sadly no longer with us . In the Bike racing community we have all known local charecters and famous stars of our sport being badly injured or killed and often the only solace being that they died angauged in what they loved to do . So this week has seen the passing of Nikey Hadon, killed while cycling hits hard and hearing of John Mcguinnes`s accident at the NW200 have been bad news. I wish John all the best and hope he has a speedy recovery.

Another Good year at Stafford Show

Posted on 9th May, 2017

I had another successful attendance at the international Classic Bike Show in Stafford, I was able to progress my new paintings of Mike Hailwood aboard his six cylinder 250 Grand Prix machine and Steve McQueen mounted on his ISDT triumph. A number of prints and greeting cards were sold, as well as securing two definite commissions and expressions of interest for a number of other commissions . It was great to meet so many bike enthusiasts and quite a number of fellow painters too.

Well the midnight oil is being burnt this week in preparation for the annual International bike show at Stafford. I will be demonstrating on two new works featuring mike Hailwood on a Honda 4 , and a second piece portraying Steve McQueen on his international six day trial triumph, both in oils.  There will also be the opportunity to purchase limited addition prints, acyclic blocks and greeting cards.

I am also hoping to capitalise on the recent publication of the “Hall Green Swan Song” painting and secure some additional commission work

Opportunity at the Classic Bike Guide

Posted on 14th February, 2017

I have been working with Rowena and the good people at the Classic Bike Guide, with a view to becoming a regular artist on the rota that they operate for their regular art feature called Art on Wheel.

The brief is a little challenging to me as they prefer work in portrait and the vast majority of my work is in Landscape. They also prefer the subject matter for their pictures to be of road going bikes, where as my work is generally targeted on Competition motorcycles. If we can come up with a regular publishing slot I am quite prepared to tailor works to match this brief.

Setting up the Abbey exhibition

Posted on 19th January, 2017

What a lovely start to the New Year. I spent an enjoyable afternoon at the Abbey club in Kenilworth hanging my most challenging exhibition yet. The Exhibition is of over twenty pieces of work on a motorsport theme, images of classic racing motorcycles and cars. It was great to see the body of work altogether and on show, I have not had the opportunity to display all the works together before. The venue is a lovely room and the people at the Abbey club are very friendly bunch .

I had the great pleasure of meeting the members of the Harp Art Group on the 2nd of July. We gathered at their meeting place in Lower Holyhead Road, Coventry. Where we shared a couple of hours discussing motor sport art and I was able to take the group through the process from picking resource material, composition, sketching out to completing a work. Following this members of the group where able to use my resource material to start their own pictures.

It was great to work with the group and I received some very positive feedback.

I was overjoyed to meet Martin Matcalf for a second time at the recent classic motorcycle race meeting at Cadwell Park.

I first met Martin at the last Cadwell meeting I attended nearly 3 years ago. At that time I was working on a painting of Jarno Saarinen on his 250cc Yamaha twin. Martin stopped to talk and told me of his teenage hitch-hike to Scarborough to see the great man in action. It was great to catch up with Martin and be able to show him the finished picture.

Martin forwarded me a copy of the photo he took of me and the painting in its unfinished state, the completed work can be viewed on the prints page. It was great to talk to you again Martin thanks for taking the time to stop and talk.

Looking Forward to Classic Cadwell

Posted on 14th April, 2015

After a pre-longed absence due to a medical condition, my father is returning the track to parade his Aermacchi

at the Classic Cadwell event over the weekend of the 3rd & 4th May 2015.

We are all looking forward to this weekend and I will be doing my best to transform the scrutineering bay into a pop up art gallery again and demonstrating oil painting over the lunch break periods, lets all hope for some good weather.
